Aloe haworthiodes

Aloe haworthiodes Aloe sp.

Aloes have long been classified as part of the Lily family, though some botanists have other ideas. They are native to Africa and Arabia, plus - as in the case of A. haworthiodes - Madagascar. They vary in size considerably from sought after miniatures (including A. haworthiodes), through substantial bush sized clumps such as that pictured right, to tree Aloes from Southern Africa.

The picture on the left was taken at the BCSS Zone One Show at the National Garden Festival,

Gateshead 1990, the one on the right was taken in the Funchal Botanical Garden on Madeira.
