Espostoa melanostele

These woolly cacti come from the Andes, where the white hairs provide insulation. Although they are quite popular in cultivation, they seldom flower in the UK, nor do they reach the same height up to 5m (16ft) as their columnar cousins back in South America. Nevertheless, they can be very attractive and add a pleasing variation to the rows of small globular species in the greenhouse.
