Copiapoa barquitensis

Copiapoa barquitensis

Copiapoas, from the coastal desert regions of Chile, include some beautiful plants. The larger ones are truly splendid in habitat while many of the smaller ones flower beautifully in cultivation. Copiapoa barquitensis (often labelled C. hypogaea) is a lovely brown bodied plant with whitish wool and readily produced yellow flowers.
The plant pictured was runner up in one of the classes at the BCSS Zone One Show at Gateshead Garden Festival in 1990.
